Visiting Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a cool place. The thing that I loved most about it is that it is surrounded by water – and warm water at that! On the weekends, everyone heads to the beach. Similar to where I live – but in Colorado everyone heads to the mountains on the weekend. In both our cultures, it is all about doing what you love and enjoying time with your family.
A lot of people don’t know this, but Puerto Rico has mountains as well. The entire middle of the island is covered with mountains – and it is the home to the only rain forest in the United States. We hiked when we were there and I have never seen so much rain!
Being in Puerto Rico is like being the in the US in many ways, but also very different. You can drive down the road and buy a snow cone (piragua) out of the back of someone’s car – OR – you can stop at a Wal-Mart. It’s like they are trying to hang on to their old culture while being part of the modern world.
I highly recommend you visit Puerto Rico. It’s a great place for families because there are a ton of things for kids to do. And – BONUS – you don’t need a passport to get there!
